Boy Scout Troop 161 is the oldest established Troop in Willis, Texas. The leadership believes in teaching
young men to be productive citizens and the leaders of tomorrow, with good character and confidence. Here life skills are
taught and we continue to explore the world around us in a fun way. Each month the Troop meets 3 times and go on 1 camp out,
meetings are on Monday's at 7:oo pm at The First United Methodist Church, 200 N. Thomason, Willis.
During our meetings and outings the boys use the patrol method,
plan the outings, prepare menus and budgets, practice skills, learn leadership. Country, Community service, Church, School,
Family, Volunteerism are all part of this Troop. Scouts are given every opportunity to earn merit badges, have completed requirements
checked, Scoutmaster conferences, Boards of Reviews.
Our monthly outings involve a wide range of activities, including but not limited to the following: camping with
the trailor full of camp gear, backpacking with a minimal ammount of equipment, swimming, canoeing, fishing, river rafting,
museums, nature, horseback riding, team building challenges. Each summer we go to "Summer Camp" anywhere from 7
to 10 days. In recent years summer camp has been in Mississippi, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Colorado and several areas of Texas.
The Troop Committee, comprised
of the parents meets the 1 Monday a month that the boys do not meet.
